Journey Out Of Agoraphobia
|
Agoraphobia is the fear of being in social situations, wherein one experiences intense anxiety and
panic. They fear social situations for the belief that they are being watched by others. Because of intense
anxiety, some sufferers of agoraphobia panic attacks prefer staying at home and avoiding social situations at
all.
The severity of agoraphobia matters from one person to another. Some sufferers can live normal
lives by avoiding situations that potentially provoke the anxiety attacks. Some sufferers have such severe cases
agoraphobia that they become recluse and homebound. 1% of the total American population suffers from this panic
disorder.
There are doctors that specialize in agoraphobia and other related panic disorders. Mostly, they
prescribe medication to the patient. They usually describe tranquilizers, antidepressants, or other medication that
will work best on the patient. If not effective, they will increase the dosage or try another drug. This may lead
to worse effects, such as abuse and addiction. It is better to try natural recovery techniques instead.

Here are natural methods that help cure agoraphobia panic attacks:
• Behavior Therapy
This method is designed to change the sufferer’s attitude towards the trigger or event that they fear the most. A
much improved therapy is the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) wherein it corrects the irrational thoughts the
patients believe so they will be able to recover.
• Herbal Medicinal Therapy
Common herbs used to treat agoraphobia and panic attacks are Valerian and Kava Kava. These herbs help calm the
nerves and do not have any side effects like that of conventional drugs.
• Psychodynamic therapies
Psychodynamic therapy can help cure agoraphobia by revealing the underlying causes of the fear. This can only work
with the help of the patient, if he or she is willing to talk about it.
• Emotional Freedom Techniques
Developed in the 70s, the technique taps the human body’s 365 acupuncture points to restore the energy flow. With
positive affirmation, emotional freedom techniques help release the emotional blocks that hold back electromagnetic
energy from flowing through the body. The best thing about this is that one and two sessions are enough to do the
trick.
• Meditation
Meditation is simple enough, and has proven to successfully cure panic attacks, too. All you need to do is find a
spot in a quiet room, Do breathing exercises, let the positive energy flow in and the let the negative energy move
out. Sadly, not many have the patience or the time to try it out.
• Biofeedback
Biofeedback helps treat agoraphobia by learning how to control the anxieties and fears.
• Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Method (EMDR method)
The EMDR method is the newest and one of the most effective forms of therapy to help agoraphobia panic attacks and
phobias. Patients who have experienced child abuse or trauma are treated by making the sufferer revisit the event
that caused negative feelings, thus started his fear towards that certain event or situations. These negative
feelings are then exchanged into resolved feelings, calm and peace.
