The Remedy: Panic Attack Cures
Your eyes widen and your pulse quickens. Your chest constricts and it’s hard to breathe. These are
well-known symptoms of an anxiety attack. Is there a remedy for panic attacks?
The best way to find a cure for anxiety attacks is to understand its nature. Let’s start at the
very beginning. Each and every person has their own set of fears. In early childhood, it comes in the form of
boogey men under the bed or monsters and ghouls that visit nighttime dreams. As teenagers, people have experienced
being afraid on their first day of school or before an important examination. But is fear really outgrown?

Contrary to popular belief, the paralyzing feeling of anxiety doesn’t end when one grows up. Sure,
one might no longer be terrified of witches or clowns like in childhood, but fear simply takes on a different face.
For most adults, anxiety springs when things one values are threatened: a family member falls ill, you lose your
job, etc. Anxiety can also spring from uncertainty: moving to a different place, a job interview, an important
presentation. In these situations, one feels very vulnerable. Some people react to this feeling of not being in
control by having a panic attack. What is the remedy?
Panic or anxiety attacks are simply a cry for help. It is a signal of desperation. In order to
avoid them, the first thing to do is to not let oneself reach the tipping point of desperation. A lot of people
refuse to give vent to their emotions and keep them inside until they’re all pent up and ready to explode. The key
thing to remember here is that it is okay to express how you feel. It is okay to feel frustrated. It is okay to
cry. Talk to your friends or significant other about the way you feel. Giving vent to your emotions will help you
let some of the stress go and keep you from having an anxiety attack.
Another tip is to relax. Whenever you feel like your stress levels are reaching boiling point, give
yourself some time out. Engage in something that will help calm you down. This can range from having a bubble bath
to doing some yoga, getting a massage or boxing. Drink some chamomile tea (a well-known antidote to stress). When
you already are having an attack, remind yourself to breathe. Take deep, even breaths in and out. Get yourself a
glass of water and drink slowly. And call someone for help.
Finally, it is good to keep in mind that whatever you are going through or feeling at the moment
will pass. It will fade away. Just like your childhood fears of boogey men dissipated in the sunlight, so will the
problems of today fade in the future. Sure, your problems might not sort themselves out in a day, but remember that
Rome wasn’t built in a day either. Keep yourself optimistic and hopeful. And, most importantly, surround yourself
with loving and supportive people who will help you through your toughest times. This, along with keeping hopeful,
relaxing and giving vent to your emotions will remedy any panic attack that might threaten to overcome you.
